French Fortitude - Week 4
« on: March 19, 2018, 06:32:55 PM »
Another week, another title of positively insufferable encouragement! The bad jokes will keep on coming unless someone else gets in first  :P

So, anyway. Here we are in the latest week of the writing challenge. All are welcome to join in on this little literary logbook.

To reiterate the purpose, we each set a daily personal goal, which could be as simple as showing up to post anything you like here, regardless of whether or not you have written anything. Even if you're having an awful day, you could simply show up and say so, if you wished. (Or not - we all have to hide under a rock sometimes.)

Everyone is encouraged to post their goal in the thread, although as with sharing work, word counts, etc, it's all voluntary, but of course, a public goal can help in keeping yourself accountable.

Here's a quote from Steven Pressfield, which may help inspire you :)

At the end of the day, I ask myself only one question.
I don't ask myself, 'Did I write anything good today?'
I don't ask myself, 'Did I write a lot today?'
I only ask myself, 'Did I overcome resistance today?'

Now go forth and write!  :D  (And try not to throw each other under the bus. Even if it is full of popcorn.)

OK! So, today I wrote 60 words while waiting for my Indian takeaway lunch, and also made a found poem out of photocopied, chopped up sentences.

Hah! We both came up with the same country! I was trying to think of a name for this week this morning and came up with French Frustration  ;D I think yours is more inspiring though  :)

Today I'm just hoping to do some editing of a thing I wrote last week. My goal for the week is to do a little each day on this piece and get it a couple of (poetry) pages long and quality ish.

Thanks, but frustration is probably more appropriate... haha!

My own (yet to actually be achieved) goal is a page of typed text each day, and this week I hope to at least print out all of my poems so that I may try to figure out which way around they might wish to go in a collection of sorts, something which I have been procrastinating on for probably a year or more, now. :(

I was sidetracked by electrical things today, including a brand-new and yet somehow faulty part, which gave me no end of interesting fun. After all that was over, I only now just spouted 818 words (:o!) of unknown quality onto my keyboard. As soon as I post this, I shall go and face-plant into my pillow.

Hello!

My goals this week are:

1. Post on the forum every day, even if I don't write anything (this will make me write something).
2. Spend at least 10 minutes working on my book (I'm going for achievable here. But this may literally be all I need to finish it. I wouldn't know because I have been avoiding opening the document for weeks).
3. Spend 10 minutes submitting something to a poetry competition, preferably one with a cash prize so I can buy lots of croissants to celebrate.

As you can see I have already failed at my first goal because I didn't post on Monday or Tuesday. BUT, I did do some writing on both of those days. I plan to spend the next 20 minutes writing today. I will let you know how I go.

Thanks for being there, writing friends, as I stumble (trip, and fall face forwards) towards my goals!

I did it! I wrote for 20 minutes.

Here is a sample:

I can not always be on show.
Sometimes I have an ingrown hair in my chin.
Sometimes I want to put chocolate mousse -
cold and creamy - in my armpits.
On hot days.
I need to eat more baked beans.
I may be becoming a worse writer, but it’s more than you can say,
you yellow peg lying there on the desk.
I want you to know that my kitchen is very tidy.
Santa gave it to me.
I have a real baby doll.
I will map the chaos for her.

Is this a hint?

I did 10 minutes of editing and wrote a few new bits for my thingy-ma-bobby I've been working on.

Chocolate mousse in your armpits? Hahaha!  ;D

I wrote 482 words in random bursts over the course of the morning, today.

Yay for thingy-ma-bobbies!

Not a hint, sorry Serena.

I wrote this morning - on A3. I did a picture wrote a poem around it. I was thinking of those poems we wrote a while back about our inner critics. Here are this morning's ramblings...

My censor usually tells me to go to bed
Don’t even go near the page
You’ll probably do something
boring or inappropriate
What can I do to loosen the seal?

My censor is a big grey seal
sleeping over my creative life
with a blocked nose
snoring

I drew her

A seal looks nothing like this
This is a bad picture
I need to cover it up with something better

She’s sort of sweet though
look at her eyelashes
Maybe she really is tired
She could be growing a baby seal inside her
Oh look! She is.

How the hell do you draw a seal
that actually looks like a seal?
Whiskers?
Her nose is ugly

I like the baby
The baby is awake

What is the seal flattening again?
Oh, grotesque things
a big picture of greasy genitalia
Probably loneliness, hurt
Body shame
Cuts and grazes

The seal is sort of like a scab.
How do I loosen the seal?

I really like that ^  it was random but also followed a really clear path. I think you may have accidentally written a LOGICAL POEM !  :o

Here is my pondering today:

open it up
put something down
some days that’s that
other you’ll find
more lying around
in your head just waiting
for you to
open it up

I was busy today, but not writing. I did manage 59 words of actual content and almost twice that in chapter descriptions.

I like the poems :) hopefully I can read them properly tomorrow.

I didn't post yesterday, nor did I write. I didn't write any new words today, but I did achieve one of my goals, and spent 1 hour working on my book  ;D

You shall be rewarded for your hard work and discernment when your book sails to glorious heights of intellectual acclaim! It said so in a fortune cookie.

I've managed to trawl 90 words from the murky depths of my exhausted brain... It's something. Maybe I can print my poems last minute tomorrow!  ::)
